After the unfortunate result of the Champions League finale in Munich yesterday, I was looking for some photos from there, but we have precious few photos from the twelve years I’ve been living there. This one shows the Olympia Park, the location of the Olympics 1972, taken from the television tower in the park. In the right upper corner is the stadium, which would have been the location of the finale up until a few years ago. Now, I’m not even sure what it is used for.

We used to live not far from there - in one of the buildings on the very upper left corner.

Speaking about Titanic and the movie: back in 1998 we saw that movie and got inspired to do the transatlantic crossing on the Queen Elizabeth 2 for honeymoon, under the assumption that there were no icebergs in November and modern technology would help ship to avoid them anyway.

Three things to be learned from the Titanic exhibition at the Seaport museum:
1. First class passengers were the largest group of travelers, roughly as many as third class and twice as much as second class passengers.
2. While there were a few of those lavish accommodations known from the movie, most of the first class staterooms were small and stuffed.
3. The rescue activities were almost “live-tweeted” by a marine communication system called Marconi.

New Google+ iOS app

I was about to rant about Googles iOS apps: many of them are poorly designed and buggy. The Google+ app always was an exception — it has beat the Facebook app easily. But the new 2.0 version is just breathtaking, hands down the most beautifully animated app I know on iOS. It also seems to handle poor network connections gracefully, something that is particularly important in NYC.

Correction: end of May 2003 we went on vacation for the first time since we had moved to New York. We didn’t have to go far - Montauk is a mere 3 hours by train from the city. Weather-wise we had bad luck - it was raining most of the time. Good that I had my Palm PDA with me.
